A teeny bit about me
Hello! My name is Katie Kane and I am a NY/NJ-based theatre artist. I graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in theatre studies. I began nurturing my passion for the performing arts at two years old in ballet class and it only grew as I trained in choral singing, a cappella, and musical theatre. When I was seven years old, I was cast in Lerner and Loewe's Camelot and I've had the musical theatre bug ever since. This production of Camelot was also where I started my costuming journey, yes, at seven years old. A year later, everyone in the third grade was forced to be in the school choir, we sang "Rainbow Connection" at the winter concert and I took choir all through grade school and college (except that one year I did orchestra and played violin, but that memory has been suppressed, however the ear training stuck!). I took piano lessons for several years, I wouldn't say I liked it at the time but I'm glad I know how to read music and plunck out a tune if I have to. I joined the co-ed a cappella group in high school which challenged me musically beyond belief. The arrangements were difficult and the frequency I was expected to sing was otherworldly.
During the pandemic, I was completely deprived of all art. As quarantined life was dying down, I decided that I was 1) going to put on a fully virtual production of Comden and Green's Peter Pan and 2) I was going to start a virtual female cover band/a capplla group. I learned how to edit videos with special effects, how to mix music, and how to never take on a task that big by myself again. That last thing did not stick, we're still working on that.
Nowadays, I try to fulfill myself creatively in any way I can. Whether writing, directing, producing, performing, songwriting, insert other present participles here, expressing myself creatively gets me up in the morning. Also, my dog physically wakes me up in the morning.

Peace x Love,
Katie
